Four New Authors Highlight My May/June Reads

It's Time for a May/June Reading Blitz

Ok so at the being of the year, I set my 2019 Reading Challenge. Last year my challenge was to read 65 books. At the beginning of the year I thought it was an unreachable goal. I reached it!

So this year I decided to set the goal a little higher. I decided that six books a month might be doable. That makes my goal 72 books. As of this week I am seriously behind the pace I would need to read at to reach my goal. I have only read 19 books so far this year. To be on pace I would need to have read 27 books! Wow! I’m eight books behind. Well, actually 7 and 1/3 because I am 2/3 of the way through James Rollins’ latest Crucible. But I’m still seriously behind!

Today, I took two books back to the library and replaced them with two very short books. So I think it’s time to go on a reading blitz with those two books leading the way!

A while back I downloaded an app to my iPhone called My Reading app. Using the app you can set up a reading plan, add books and keep track of the number of pages you have read. Truth be told I had used it successfully at the end of last year and the being of this year, but, I havenpp’t been using it over the last month!!!

My May/June Planned Reads

So this after new after my trip to the library I have created a plan for the end of this month and the beginning of June. The six books I am going to read are:

Crucible - James Rollins
Sigma Force # 14

Wheel of Fire - Hilary Bonner
DI David Vogel #2

Cold, Cold Heart - A.J. Cross
Kate Hanson #5

The Craftsman - Sharon Bolton
The Craftsman # 1

A Beautiful Corpse - Christi Daugherty
Book #2Harper McClain

The Keeper of Lost Causes - Jussi Adler-Olson
Department Q #1

Of the six books the authors of only two of the books are ones that I read regularly. Well actually, I only read Christi Daugherty’s debut novel last month!! I have though been a fan of Rollins’ Sigma force  novels for a long time now!!

So I better end this and get reading don’t you think?  Anyone read any of the above and what did you think?

Hello and Welcome to Being Doing and Getting Younger Next Year. The online journal of Eddie or Ed Karn depending on when you knew me. Folks who knew me up through high school know Eddie. The rest know Ed. There are a few people in Athens Georgia who may know me as Edward because that’s what they heard my wife call me!

But back to this site. This site is about BEING the best version of me that I can be. And I become that by Doing things that I love along with, doing things that will help me get YOUNGER NEXT YEAR. Because I not going to be a very good me if I keep getting older and stodgier!

Through the years I have ready many self help books. From classics by the likes of Napoleon Hill and Dale Carnegie to more contemporary authors like Gretchen Rubin. Alas, though I never thought and grew rich or have a lot of friends or influence anyone. But there are two books whose programs I have put into practice. They are: Ultralongevity and Younger Next Year.I have probably put more of the ideas espoused in Younger Next Year into practice. But the Seven-Step outlined in Ultralongevity is always in my mind as I develop my plans and goals. The following are the key steps or rulesfrom both books

Ultralongevity’s Seven Seven Steps

In Ultralongevity the author Mark Liponis,MD presents a Seven-Step Program for a Younger, Healthier You. The following are the seven steps.

  1. Breathe
  2. Eat
  3. Sleep
  4. Dance
  5. Love
  6. Soothe
  7. Enhance

While in Younger Next Year co-author Harry Lodge,MD outlines his seven rules for turning back your biological clock.

HARRY’S RULES from Younger Next Year

1 Exercise six days a week for the rest of your life.

2 Do serious aerobic exercise four days a week for the rest of your life.

3 Do serious strength training, with weights, two days a week for the rest of your life.

4 Spend less than you make.

5 Quit eating crap!

6 Care.

7 Connect and commit.

I intend to make these rules and steps a page in the future and will i will elaborate on each step and rule. I will also try to show how I am incorporating them into my life! Some I am already doing well with and others I need to work on. So I hope you'll join me as a keep up Being, Doing and Getting Younger Next Year!!
